AS JUNE GOES BY...

Hello Everybody,

How've you been? Hope all's well at your end? Well,it's been a busy month...not as far as I'm concerned but on newsmaking events taking place around the world! And yup...if I did miss out on any...please do write in the comments section which is at the end of each article...So,let's get going!
The much awaited FIFA world cup kickstarted amidst great frenzy... but on the eve of this grand event, the family of Africa's legendary leader Nelson Mandela was mourning the tragedy of his great grand-daughter who was killed in a car crash on her way from the 2010 FIFA World Cup kick-off concert. RIP

On the FIFA world-cup front,I'm not following it much though except felt a li'l bad at the unfair ouster of the Brazilian mid-fielder Kaka when he was shown two yellow cards and one red card in one game against Ivory Coast which obviously Brazil breezed through with ease! But this one was not as grave as Zidane's head-butting incident! But Kaka's dismissal for the match against Portugal did not take away the sheen from Brazil...both the formidable teams put up a great fight by drawing the match to 0-0. But what a pity...Portugal and England who were the favorites this World cup are already out of the tournament!

Glad to see Obama cracking the whip on BP after the recent oil spill in Louisana by demanding a compensation of $20bn dollars for restoration of ecology....these giant conglomerates think they can easily get over it as though it's a cakewalk....this might actually be true as far as India is concerned where human life has no value and victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy are still waiting for 26 long years of eternal justice even after the disaster...

Alright...now getting on with some more news....Bollywood actor,Manisha Koirala is now Mrs.Manisha Dahal. The Nepalese beauty who wowed Bollywood finally found a perfect match in Kathmandu-based businessman Samrat Dahal....My heartiest congratulations to the newly-weds and here's wishing them eternal bliss!
Talking of Bollywood...one actress seems to be literally hissing around these days, drawing stares for her latest film at international film festival circuits, even getting clicked with the who's who of Hollywood...and her efforts seem to be paying off...I'm talking of Mallika Sherawat and her film Hisss (lost count of the number of S's though!) And going by the latest buzz, I'm told that Oscar-nominee actress Salma Hayek has signed her up for her next...Now watch out this space for more!

There's never dearth of news in Bollywood...Now coming to the dismal run at the Box-office (B.O.)...two films which were riding high on moolahs and expectations seem to be taking a beating with reportedly over 100 crores loss by Reliance Big Pictures (who happened to be producing both the films!).... yes,I'm talking of the much hyped - Kites and Raavan,so much so that Kites is already premiering on television within one month of it's release and Raavan has already been declared a flop in the week-end itself(even Sr.Bachchan was not too happy with the editing of the film)! Kites was made for an international audience and a niche audience in India...then pray why was it released in the interiors...how'd you expect people to react to dialogues in Spanish/English or even give a quick look at the subtitles and what sense the audience there would make of it I wonder...except for watching a gori memsahib,Barbara Mori! Coming to Raavan, it draws a metaphorical inspiration from the mythological story of Ramayan where three key characters of Ram, Sita and Raavan are played by Vikram,Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. The visuals flashed on television of the film reminded me of Ramu's (Ram Gopal Varma) flick Jungle (Urmila Matondkar-Fardeen Khan starrer)....almost similar plot of abduction, rescue, drama and even set in the jungles!...Probably Mani could have borrowed Ramu's editor!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU....India's most eligible bachelor, the handsome dimpled politico Rahul Gandhi...yes is still a bachelor...except that he turned 40 on June 19...and isn't it a coincidence of sorts that we had yet another Rahul....yes our very own suave and charming actor and ex-VJ,Rahul Khanna celebrating his 38th birthday on June 20th! Cool na...they could catch up together sometimes...after all they have a lot in common - non- controversial,a style quotient of their own, an uber-cool charisma and all the girls vying for their attention... ;-) Hee-hee!

Talking of bachelors.... another one in Hollywood soon readies to say "I do"...Legolas,Paris...oh oh..I mean Orlando Bloom has formalized his three year relationship with supermodel  of Victoria's Secret Angels,Miranda Kerr by announcing his engagement. Leo (Di' Caprio) is not far behind...he's madly in love with supermodel (yet another!) Bar Rafaeli no matter segments of the Jewish nationals opposing their impending marriage. Love is blind...love knows no boundaries...blah blah...Anyway, now without an iota of jealousy.. ;-) here's wishing the couples in love eons of bliss, joy and a rocking married life too!
But this is not fair....now if all the eligible bachelors at this rate begin to get booked and hooked....then what'd happen to the already delicate 'n' fragile hearts of all the young girls like us....Ouch! Call for the doctor..Help! Alright... just kidding!! I'm referring to Robert Pattinson! The untold story of a vampire (not the stereotyped blood-sucking one....but a truly handsome one!) falling in love with a human seems to be happening. Young love which blossomed on the sets of Twilight between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan...I mean between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart is actually true....the next film of the Twilight series is due to release early this year...no, I think its June 30th (don't know about India though....now would anybody mind lending me a DVD of the film!) Whatever the rating or reviews of the film....I definitely want to watch this one! Watch the trailer on youtube-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1D5goGz0SY
And of course...now talking of youtube let me make an announcement here that I have started my youtube channel...it was always there, except that now I'm actively using it...watch some of my works and assignments that I have uploaded outta here - http://www.youtube.com/user/coolsonyaa
It's been a year already and the hysteria refuses to die down behind the aura of a magical figure called Michael Jackson...who may soon become a faint memory...but his hauntingly beautiful voice of healing the world will continue to live on. On June 25th as the world celebrated his first death anniversary, his last musical concert 'This is It' was premiered on Sony Pix which documented the last few months of his rehearsals and preparations for THIS IS IT...words may fail me when I describe more about MJ's electrifying performance...the curtains may have come down...but the legend lives on...
As the month ended some more tragic news poured in with the suicide of supermodel Viveka Babajee who shot to fame with the Kamasutra ads in the 990's. While the modelling fraternity was still reeling under the shock of Viveka's death, the film fraternity mourned the untimely death of young director Saurabh Narang (of Sushmita Sen starrer Vastu-Shastra) who had been ailing for a while. Both were 37.
O yes..now before I forget....fans of Aamir Khan ...here's a reminder..the actor is all set to join twitter on July 1st which is today...remember the mahurat date! ;-)
Take care and ciao until next month!
