DECEMBER MUSINGS: REVIEWING SPECTRE,HUMOR TIME WITH JIM CARREY & MUCH MORE...

Hi Friends,

Howdy? Hope you enjoyed reading last month's post on James Bond as you discovered the charming Roger Moore who cast a spell on the audiences and set many a hearts aflutter as the suave and dashing 007 agent back then!

Psst...speaking of James Bond,we decided to watch Spectre at the multiplex yesterday which also happened to be my birthday. But I must share my disappointment here and candidly admit that I did not like the film.It was quite un-James Bond like -  not a well-structured film with a wafer-thin plot and an unclear mission to start with.

  --- Spoilers ahead ---

[Now just because Ernst Stavro Blofeld says that he was behind it all i.e. the one responsible for unleashing hell and pain in James Bond's life in the last three outings doesn't justify them all by a mere mention of it.There should have been an indication of it for the audiences to decipher in the previous three installments of the film. For instance if the letter 'S' was discovered by James Bond or an octopus-like shadow lurking in the backdrop at the end of Casino Royale,Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall - it would have led to the build up of Spectre. And then perhaps that explanation by Blofeld would have been even credible and thus lent some weightage to the story of the film. But with these shortcomings on board,it only goes to show that the story of Spectre was just an after-thought.Then you had a hackneyed twist awaiting the audiences at the end of Spectre when you learnt that James Bond was fostered by Blofeld's father as a child which further doesn't add any punch or substance to the plot. Then you have romance figuring out of nowhere and action thrown into the narrative just for the sake of it! The few and far action sequences in between was just a timely reminder to the audiences that they were indeed watching an action caper 007 spy film.]

Above all,my main question here is - Where was the story line? And what was it? I felt that Christoph Waltz was wasted in the two and half hour long film.Quentin Tarantino definitely brings out the best of him. Two Oscars for Christoph Waltz in both of Tarantino's films is a proof of it!

Spectre wasn't spectacularly riveting in the least! In my view,Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation fared much better than Spectre.

Now as 2015 comes to a close,it's time for action take a backseat as I inject some humor in the coming paragraphs of this post. With news bulletins getting more disturbing by the day as untoward incidents continue unabated,me and my family at times turn to Youtube to watch a clip or two of Jim Carrey to find some solace and get our lost cheer back. I simply love the way at how Jim Carrey effortlessly uses his facial muscles and expressions to transform himself into a different character altogether. Besides,he chooses his lines very well while doing impressions of celebrities and uses his rubber flexible body as a prop to keep us enthused and entertained.

When it comes to movies on comedy,of course all of Jim Carrey's films like Ace Ventura Pet Detective,Ace Ventura When Nature Calls,The Mask,Yes Man,Me, Myself & Irene, Dumb & Dumber,The Cable Guy qualify as wholesome entertainers! I somehow get the feeling that besides the act he puts up on the big screen,Jim Carrey has that innate gift to turn any situation humorous even in reality simply by his mannerisms even without uttering a word. For starters,it comes as no surprise that my dad who is all focused and serious when watching news breaks into peals of laughter when I show him a clip or two of Jim Carrey on my smartphone...now that's what I call the "JC effect"!

Have a look at Jim Carrey do a Rocky Balboa and enjoy a few laughs! Of course, if you search Youtube, you'd find Jim Carrey do an Arnold Schwarzenegger,Clint Eastwood, Elvis Presley,Kevin Bacon,James Dean,David Caruso,Robin Williams etc. :) Of course, if you dig Youtube some more then Jim Carrey would even show you how rich people laugh vis-a-vis an ordinary person,he will even do a Black Swan,a short episodic of Death Goes on A Holiday, mimic an old man and woman and so much more!

Comedy is the most difficult form of acting...for an actor a lot depends on getting the timing right, but I'd say getting the act right by permeating into the skin of the character that you are going to portray in the first place is what goes on to define the performance. And the versatile Jim Carrey transforms himself both internally and externally to any character spot on,which is truly the hallmark of an outstanding actor.

When it comes to films,I have fallen in love with the  genre of animation in recent times particularly with the way how newer characters are etched out and the way stories are told...it simply strikes a chord as it touches the heart and soul. They make me laugh, they make me smile, they make me cry, they make me emotional and they teach me a thing or two about life! The film that I have loved which makes me both smile and emotional is - Kung Fu Panda. I particularly love that innocent and child-like quality which Po,the panda possesses and his simplistic understanding of life that both amuses me and at the same time makes me ponder especially during his interactions with Master Shifu and his goose father,Mr. Ping.Of course the film has a greater philosophy about Po coming to his own and realizing that he is the one.Overall, Kung Fu Panda is a film which has many layers to it and has a mass appeal with age groups from 6-60!Till then, watch the trailer of Kung Fu Panda 3 that releases come 2016.

When it comes to cartoons...the legend of Tom and Jerry is timeless! In my house, whenever Tom and Jerry is switched on,all eyes are glued to the television even as the household chores are on - be it mopping the floor, whisking eggs, cutting onions or for that matter even reading the newspaper or surfing the internet. One glimpse and the child inside us comes alive as we laugh our hearts out.

And thus it is with this thought I leave my readers on a refreshing note that may laughter, humor and smiles fill your lives in the new year. May you be an instrument of joy in the life of others as you spread mirth, happiness and kindness with all those you come across.

Thank you very much for being a part of yet another fantastic year of my journey at Sonyaa's Random Musings! :)
Take care and God bless
Love,
Sonyaa
