DECODING THE D-FACTOR

Hello Everybody,

How have you been? And how did the week go by? Trust all's been fine with you all through. Some of my family members and friends pointed it out to me, that though my blog was open to the general public for sharing their articles, opinions, thoughts but I had not been explicit about it....well...I agree...my fault...so, I'll make it clear to you all that I welcome each one of you to share articles, life-changing experiences, adventures etc on what you think our readers would enjoy...so let us express ourselves freely so that people around may be inspired or be informed about things they'd have perhaps not known about!

Well, you'll have my apologies this week...but it had been a tiring week, so I didn't get a chance to write an article afresh....ah....but I do have one which I had written during my journalistic days in college which was published in The Free Press Journal, one of the oldest newspapers in India.

Well, in this article I had discussed about the prospects of Sports as a possible career option....after all you'd agree with me when I say that it is the most rewarding profession....if you enjoy the game then you'd definitely reach the pinnacles of glory and of course you're well rewarded too....after all look at Sachin, Dhoni,Yuvraj or even Abhinav Bindra...great players....they enjoy their game and they are doing exceedingly well too. And what more look at Sachin, he's an entrepreneur too....he has a restaurant after his name!! Now all said, but less done about it because when it comes to children deciding on a career option, they hardly have a say in it....thanks to their parents, who harbour dream that their children must take up the family profession or embark upon a career which everyone goes for like engineering, doctor, chartered accountant etc and then settle for a government job!! Seldom anyone thinks out of the box....say...Sports as a career option!! Well, why not!! Read on this article that briefly discusses this point I have just touched upon.

And do not forget to share your views and opinions on the same....and of course your lovely articles!!
Love,
Sonyaa                                           ***********

D- Desire, Determination, Destination…these three words precisely explain the aspirations and the thought-process of the youth today. Alright, now let’s decode these three words to understand what they mean and how they apply to our lives.

In this fast paced, dynamic world, the changing lifestyles, high standards of living, increasing costs, newer technologies/ products hitting out in the markets each passing day – have invaded our lives and left us craving for more, thereby leaving us dissatisfied and disillusioned in the bargain. So, then how does one cope with these ever increasing needs, fulfill these demands and live with these pressures surrounding us each day, each moment of our lives?

Of course each one of us desires to have the best in life, but then the problem is what do you invest on to reach your destination?Good education, yes this is something you could definitely count on. What next? Yes, it’s a secure job, a good bank balance and an excellent career profile- to keep you moving in life. Alright, then what possibly could be a rewarding career option?

It could range from software engineering to doctor, to being a lawyer, chartered accountant or even something as a earning a good pay packet in a call-centre job. But do we hear of anyone saying that he/ she desires to make sports as a career? Or probably call it his/ her profession?

Have you tried figuring out why? Everyone may like seeing Sachin hit a six in the cricket field? Or Sania hitting it out against her opponent to score that point. But have you imagined yourself there? Blame it on ‘people’s mentality’ or getting a ‘chance’. A common tendency witnessed in some parts of India is that when a child just passes out of tenth class, the normal course of action chalked out by all the elders in the family for their ward is to pursue further studies in the field of engineering and if the child is not successful in getting admission into that then the second best option would be a course in the field of ‘medicine’ and the remaining few options left are commerce or arts. There’s really no time to think. Blame it on competition, peer pressure or parents. So, it’s not necessary that one may end up doing what one is really passionate about; you may end up doing something just for the sake of earning those bucks. In a way one way may be right, but the flipside is that you’d find that your profession a drag, something you may probably not be upbeat about doing. And at the end of the day it would all appear to be a monotonous task tied around your neck.

The whole idea here is to definitely enjoy your work and a wise career decision will certainly help you survive in this rat-race and keep you going in the long-run. Be it a career in sports. Wake up! And get ready to take charge of your life!!
