Hi Friends,
How've you been? Did you enjoy 'listening' to my last months blog post? And if you did...then you must be eagerly waiting for this one too! For those who didn't you're not too late either... just click here and get updated before you get started....and for the rest of you let's begin this month's blog with a bang from the musical classic, The Sound of Music! Words alone can't describe the lyrical beauty, the magic of Julie Andrews voice and her power packed performance as Maria whose journey begins as a postulant but her course of life changes when she is assigned the charge of being the governess to some little brats.
And it's just a matter of time that she not only manages to win their hearts but the master of the house, Captain Von Trapp's too! Julie Andrews simply mesmerizes you with her soulful voice when she describes her feelings, thoughts and loneliness all in the title song 'The hills are alive with the sound of music...' and her range of versatility doesn't end there...she gets playful too with numbers like 'The Lonely Goatherd' and 'Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti'! What I liked about 'The Sound of Music', is that you have compositions that celebrate and capture every human emotion...if you're sad, you just have to listen to the title track of the film, 'The hills are alive...', for some fun-filled moments tune into 'The Lonely Goatherd' and 'Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti', where romance comes alive and emotions run high you have 'I am 16 going on 17...' and 'Something Good...' and lastly when there are moments you have to say goodbye, you have a 'So long farewell...' song packed in too which makes it a complete film in every sense! Of course there are many more songs that I've lost track of...so I suggest that you watch the film once again and share it with me right here by posting it in the comments section of the blog post. Till then let's watch and hear - 'The hills are alive....' and 'I am 16 going on 17...'
2. This lovely song from the film Gladiator simply strikes a chord...it is an inspiring requiem of a soldier who finds solace at last as he unites with his loved ones in heaven. In this case it's our very own Maximum Decimus Meridius... the general who became a slave, the slave who became a gladiator and the gladiator who defied an empire! Let's hear 'Now, we are free..' from the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott. Oh...by the way the song is in Gaelic or in Hebrew...could someone please confirm? To understand the true essence of the lyrics,I'd suggest that you hum along the song with it's English translation from the link given below...how's that for a change? http://tinyurl.com/nflwcm
3. Sometimes dreams come true...at least it happens in films...those few moments of phantasmagoria some how unknowingly manages to uplift our spirits too! what happens when that special someone walks into your life? He could be someone from your wildest of imaginations...a rockstar? a supermodel? the most sensational and stunning girl in your college? Or even the dashing heart-throb of your neighbourhood? Or even a film star?? Did I just say film star? Yes...at least something as such transpired in this film! It all started in Notting Hill when a Hollywood star walked into William Thacker's bookshop and found her way into his heart! And as for him...he's still in a daze! And this is just a perfect song that William Thacker would dedicate to the love of his life, Anna Scott! This is the closing track 'She' by Elvis Costello... oh and by the way can I have a 'He' version to the song?? I guess until they decide to write one, I'll have to satisfy myself by substituting 'She' for the moment! 'He may be the reason I survive...'! Enjoy singing the song along with the lyrics...
She, May be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for through the rough in ready years
Me ,I'll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I've got to be
The meaning of my life is
She...She, oh she
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for through the rough in ready years
Me ,I'll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I've got to be
The meaning of my life is
She...She, oh she
4. This one's yet another from a Julia Roberts film...oh you really feel sad for her character in the film...I mean she looked a little confused as Julianne, unsure of her feelings for the man whom she thinks of as a friend but comes to realize her love for him just days before his wedding! Do you remember this moment in the film when Julianne is dining with Michael and his in-laws...another man is also vying for her love and attention. So even if Julianne has her eyes fixed on Michael and Michael is clearly besotted with Kimberly...there's a reason for us to cheer because here's someone who loves Julianne..even she doesn't know of it until this moment. You remember him? It's George!
Do you recall George breaking into a song and professing his feelings for Julianne..Let's watch this song from the film My Best Friend's Wedding. And that's not it...do you remember the end..I'll say it's like a 'farewell' song if I look at it from Julianne's point of view...after a rollercoaster of emotions on her feelings for Michael, her relationship is back to being his friend once again..you recall her last song as the maid of honour for Michael? You can't help but get teary eyed when she 'loans' her 'love song' to the newlyweds until they found one for themselves!
5.Whenever I think of Argentina,I'm always reminded of this song! Could you guess which one would that be?? Let's start in the reverse chronological order. Madonna...does it connect? Not yet? Eva Perón? I guess you're getting the hint. And the third clue...Ah am sure you got it much before I came to it...indeed it's "Don't cry for me Argentina..." from the film Evita. Ah! Madonna's beautiful voice, those heart rending lyrics and the mood of the song...there couldn't be a befitting tribute than this when Eva Perón herself sings to her people. This song so beautifully describes her journey from a poor girl and her eventual rise to power...that she went on to inspire a nation! I simply loved it!
6.How does it feel to be loved? It's supposed to be magical...something out of this world...not that I have the answers to it...I'm just taking a cue from this song in the film. You could ask these two young lovers who despite social differences kept their love afloat in turbulence. Though sadly just one of them went on to live...but in all these years she kept alive their memories of those wonderful moments they spent together through those souvenirs of love. Remember? Do you know which film I'm talking about? Ah...yes it's the Titanic! And the song picturised on Rose Dawson in her ripe old age on the deck of the ship as she fondly recalls her glorious past that began on the Titanic where she first met the love of her life! It just goes to show that true love never dies...you can see him and feel him, every night and every moment! So...now playing 'Every night in my dreams I see you...' by the mesmerising Celine Dion from the film Titanic!
Did you enjoy reading the concluding part of the last month's blog post? Did I miss out on any of your favourite soundtracks from films? And even if I did...write in! Depending on your responses...you never know... I may have just another post of your compilations!
Till then...I'm waiting!!!
Take care and ciao!
Love,
Sonyaa
