Hi Friends,
How've you been? Did you enjoy reading my last month's blogpost?? Yup...it was about my short film "The Other Side..." and I promised you some more of it in this month's blogpost...so here we are!
In my last month's posting, I chronicled my experiences behind the making of "The Other Side...", spoke about the challenges of making the film on a zero budget and how finally we managed to see it through! :) It was definitely a learning experience for me and what better learning it all in your own production!
Before I share a brief summary on what "The Other Side..." is all about and the teaser of the film, I thought I'd first acquaint you with some of the characters in the film and later in the post share some interesting trivia on our film.
The protagonist of "The Other Side..." is Rachel and the film is about an unanswered chapter of her life which unfolds back and forth in time. Hence, we have the perspective of Rachel who is all of thirty but through the eyes of her younger self in a series of flashbacks.
Stephanie Aitken has played the lead role of Rachel while Jaunita Datta has played her younger part in the film.
The next important character in the film is Rachel's father, David who is pivotal to the plot and the point of conflict and drama in the film. Like they say no conflict, so no drama and no film...hence you've got to watch out for David! The character of David is played by Phil Walton.
Of course Rachel and David who are the two principal characters central to the plot and are ably supported by Martha, Rachel's mother played by Elizabeth Noel and a brief appearance of the "neighbour", who's coming adds a twist to the plot. Now what the twist is...you've got to wait on! The part of the neighbour is played by Era Walton.
And last but not the least, in a special appearance we have young Teagan Milar who plays herself as Rachel's friend in the film.

Now here are some interesting trivias on our film -
1. The film was shot in just two days during the weekend
2. None of the cast members of our film had any prior experience in acting or theatre whatsoever.
3. Since the cast members were not actors, hence as a back up measure we had auditioned two child artistes to play young Rachel in the film.
4.Teagan Milar was our original choice to play young Rachel in the film.
5.Coincidentally during the filming we discovered that our lead actress, Stephanie Aitken's father's name and her onscreen father's characters name were the same!
6.Hailing from Canada, Stephanie Aitken was discovered during our visit to the Rock Garden in Chandigarh (India) where she was working as a volunteer in the restoration of the sculptural garden. Within 10 minutes of our on the spot meeting with her, she had consented to play the leading lady of our film.
7. The two characters of our film - David played by Phil Walton and the lady who plays his neighbour in the film, Era Walton are real life husband-wife. Their son, William Walton has lent his vocals for two songs in the film.
8. Elizabeth Noel was first considered to play the neighbour before we finalized her to play Martha, David's wife in the film.
9. Era Walton who was our original choice to play wife to real life husband,Phil Walton in the film was altered because we felt it would be difficult to direct the couple for conflict and confrontational scenes in the film since they are a loving couple in real life!
10.The two vocals in the film sung by William Walton were recorded in a room!

Finally, here's what you have been long waiting for...a short synopsis of the film and the teaser!
Brief Summary - "The Other Side..."
Sometimes in life you have to tread the path to
the ‘other side’ to find answers to questions that have lasted in your thoughts
all along.
The answers to those
questions often come at a price when you lose a dear one not before you know
how much you were loved and kept alive through memories that became their
reason to live even in penury and loneliness.
This
is the story of Rachel who comes to find those answers from her estranged
father and how she discovers a lasting truth about life and love. At the end of
the film, there is a sense of reconciliation and a healing in the relationship
between the daughter and her father in spirit. This is what ‘The Other
Side...’ is all about!
